Services / Product Due Diligence
Product due diligence
An independent read on a company's product, roadmap and team in ten working days, written for an investment committee, a board or a 100-day plan.
- Price
- From £10,000
- fixed price, ten working days
- Time
- 10 working days
- For
- Investors, operating partners and boards of investor-backed or PE-backed companies
Investors see the pitch. I see what the team is actually working on, and whether it adds up.
Signs you need this
- You're investing in, or have just acquired, a software business and the product story was told by the founders.
- A portfolio company's roadmap keeps slipping and you can't tell whether it's the plan or the team.
- You're writing a value-creation or 100-day plan and product is the part you can't assess yourself.
- The company says it's "doing AI" and you'd like someone who has shipped AI products to check.
Not for you if
- You need a technical code audit. I'll read the code where it matters, but that's a separate engagement with a CTO.
- You want a rubber stamp.
What you get
- Interviews with the leadership team, the product and engineering leads, and where possible a handful of customers.
- A review of the roadmap, backlog, specs, metrics and how decisions get made.
- A product maturity scorecard you can compare across portfolio companies.
- A written report with findings, risks and a recommended plan for the first 100 days, and a session to walk through it.
How it works
- Days 1–3: documents, metrics and interviews.
- Days 4–7: customer conversations where allowed, deeper review, draft findings.
- Days 8–10: report, scorecard, readout with you and, if you want, the company's leadership.
Questions people ask
- Will the company's team know?
- Usually yes, and it works better when they do. Diligence done with the team tells you more than diligence done to them.
- Can you then help fix what you find?
- Yes. The Roadmap Reset or a Fractional engagement follows naturally, and the diligence fee counts against it.
- Have you worked inside a PE-backed business?
- Yes. I helped create and launch a new venture inside a PE-owned software group, from an ideas list to paying customers.
